Additional Information on the Sturgeon Bay Program
Door County is privileged to have location to serve its Parkinson exercise community . The team effort between Ministry Door County Medical Center, Door County YMCA, and The Door County Parkinsons support group has made classes available at the Door County YMCA Sturgeon Bay and at the Northern Door location in Fish Creek.
The program is led by physical therapists that have strong ties to the Parkinson Support group in the area. The goals of the program are to maintain and/or improve the mobility of those with PD, prevent social isolation and facilitate social communication, promote and encourage exercise/activity in addition to formal classes. Classes consist of floor exercises, balance exercises, and treadmill walking. The class progresses at the pace of the individual so that participants do not get left behind. Many of our participants have found that the class helps them keep moving and get out of the recliner. Winter and seasonal residents are welcome to attend. Prior to entry, a formal physical therapy evaluation is required to asses participation ability and yearly follow up with physical therapist is recommended. You may call Carl Grota, PT 920-746-0410 for additional details on how to get started.
Sturgeon Bay YMCA: Tues/Thurs 2:15-3:15
Feel free to stop in and watch a session.
